Dyschronicity: a European example

The Washington Post reveals an example of dyschronicity in Europe: thousands of people in Albania are engaged in long-term blood feuds between families.

In most of the rest of Europe, this kind of vendetta was put aside as social practice decades or centuries ago — revealing something of the challenge Albania will have convincing the European Union that the poor Balkan state is ready for membership.

This is an interesting story, except for one fact - Albania isn’t on the agenda to join the EU.

A far more interesting story would have been that of Bulgaria and Romania, which have the same features as reported about Albania, which are EU members (they came in in January).

At present, the response of the more established members of the EU is to quarantine the two nations (no freedom of labour movement) until the issue of organised, family based, crime is resolved.

    Definitely one to watch.

    With best wishes,

    Stephen
