Canada: Demography

Canada faces issues typical for developed nations, including slow growth and an aging population.

Though the numbers are not as bad as those facing Japan and much of Europe, the changing demography will still put strains on the economy, as supporting social benefits—especially healthcare—will likely be more difficult, and the ratio of working adults to dependents will be worse, falling from 62% of the population to 57%. The total number of Canadians 65 and over is expected to rise to 8.5 million.
